What does Yoga mean to you?

When you hear the word "yoga" what comes to mind?
Maybe it’s someone on a mat trying to access a tough pose. Or maybe it’s a group on a retreat sipping ceremonial cocoa. You might even picture yogis in India sitting in silence for hours, not eating or drinking.
All of these can be part of yoga - but none of them show the full picture.
At its core, yoga is built on four key pillars:
Yogic philosophy
Meditation
Asanas (poses)
Breathwork
This article isn’t here to teach you everything about yoga. There are already plenty of books, videos, and websites that explain what yoga is, where it comes from, and how it’s changed over time. If you’re curious, feel free to explore those resources.
Instead, the goal here is to get you thinking: What does yoga really mean to you?
I invite you to set aside the ideas you’ve had about yoga up until now. If it is appealing to you, you could ask yourself what yoga could mean in your life, and how it might help your wellbeing?
Ask yourself: What are you looking for when it comes to your health and balance?
Better focus?
Stronger muscles?
More self-awareness?
Healthier sleep?
Improved flexibility?
Natural healing tools?
Easier movement?
A better relationship with your breath?
These are just some of the benefits yoga can offer. So, what do you want for your wellbeing? What draws you to yoga? What are you hoping to get from it?
If you feel inspired, I encourage you to take a few moments to answer these questions. Being intentional and present in what you do often makes the experience more rewarding.
Keep in mind: yoga is not one-size-fits-all. It might not align with your goals - and that’s okay. But with so many different styles and ways to practice, chances are, there’s something that will work for you and I’d be happy to support you in finding the most optimal way.
